School Shooting

On Wednesday October 10, 2007 there was another school shooting. This shooting took place in Cleveland, Ohio at Success Tech School. This school had been known for being a school lacking problems that accepted students based on academic achievement. This however was not the case today when a fourteen year old boy went on a shooting rampage. He shot two students, one of which was fifteen and the other was eighteen. This is when the school was placed on lockdown and the administration stated over the loud speaker, "Code Blue" which alarmed the students causing them to flee. The shooter then shot two teachers which a rumor states was the result of the boy not liking these two teachers. They say he was on his way to shoot another teacher that he was on bad terms with him , but he could not find her so instead he shot himself. He was later found dead on the fourth floor. One student stated that the shooter attempted to shoot him too and he was the first tagret. He also stated he only saw one gun whereas it has been confirmed that in reality the shooter was carrying two guns. The students were then released from school and the school was baraded with police and detectives.

This was not the first sign of trouble for this youth. Earlier in the week he had been suspended as a result of a fight he got into over whether or not there was truley a God. He had been teased mercelessly by fellow classmates for the reason that they said he looked like Jack Black and had a slight limp. His fellow students say he was strange acting in class and short tempered and would constantly feel he was the object of ridicule of the teachers. His hurt feeling from being relentlessly teased over the years may have been the reason he went on a shooting spree the police now say.

The latest conditions of the victums have now been released and the police held a press release. The seventeen year old has been identified as Darnell Rogers and he had been struck by a bullet in the elbow, and will be treated and released. The fourteen year old boy's name has not been released but he was shot in the side and is in stable condition. The 57 year old school teacher named David Kachadourian is also in stable condition. The last victum whos name has not yet been released is 42 and is now in stable condition after a two hour surgery. A girl also hurt her knee among the chaos but was taken to the hospital and is said to be fine.

The school has now been closed to students until Monday. Guidance counselors and town services have been offered to students and parents. There are now going to be talks abpout improving security such as furbishing the entrances with metal detectors. PArents are looking for increased security to ensure the safety of their children.

This shooting is similar to the recent shooting a Virginia Tech and the Columbine Shooting of 1999. In these two cases the shooter had been teased to the point where they reached their breaking point where they went on a shooting spree punishing the school where they were tortured.

In 1966 at Grand Rapids High School there was a simlar case to this shooting. A student named David Black was ridiculed for his looks and his exaggerated stories. One day he grew to his boiling point and brought in a gun to school. He strolled up to a group of students who had teased him for a number of years and showcased his gun. All ran away except for one who was shot inches away from his heart. The boy would survive. There was one death which was the principal who attempted to persuade David to give him the gun but was instead shot several times. In this case and the one that occurred in Cleveland. Both of the shooters had been victums of ridicule by fellow classmates for a number of years. Neither of them quite fit in at school as a result of their insecurities. The reason behind them shooting people was that they had finally reached their boiling points from being teased for so long and reacted with violence towards the people that had ridiculed them.
