Black student marked with 'KKK' at deaf school

A black student was assaulted at a residential high school for deaf students on the campus of Galladuet University, Washington. The incident began when a group of black students engaged in an argument with a group of white students. Later, six white and one black student, all between the ages of 15 to 19, took a black student into a dorm room against his will. They wrote “KKK” and drew swastikas (symbol used as an emblem of the Nazi party) on the student with marker. The victimized student was released within 45 minutes and immediately informed school authorities, who called police.
Much support was received from the campus and school employees, upon the hearing of this unpleasant incident. The support made a very strong statement that the investigation may lead to charges of a hate crime. The seven students who participated in the wrongful act were sent home, said Katherine A. Jankowski the Dean of Clerc Center. Since the school has a very diverse population, programs are being set up to encourage diversity. On this pass Monday there was an assembly hosted by the teachers and staff related to this event.
African American were singled out by an all white dominate country. They were limited to rights that were evidently ignored. Groups such as the “KKK” tried to manipulate the blacks from taking advantage of their rights. Women also, were restricted from many rights such as voting. The Civil Rights Act in the 1960’s opened many doors by prohibiting discrimination. It was a way to preserve the national rights of all people despite their gender, religion, color, or race.

This is a good article, but you might have wanted to put where Galladuet University is. You might also want to put an exact example from the Civil Rights Movement to compare it to, not just in general. I really like this article though, it was a good choice.
