A little Education Goes a Long Way!
A Little Education Goes a Long Way!
Through the years researchers have been attempting to develop a theory on why some people live longer than others, besides medical conditions and freak accidents. Researchers have produced theories saying that Caucasian people live longer than black people, and wealthy people live longer than poor people, but no theory has proven to be completely true, until now. Researcher Dr. Smith and others like himself all agree on one contributor to a longer life: an education. Dr. Smith argues that to live a longer life, one should contribute more time in their youth to obtaining a better education. He also argues that providing the elderly with more social Security Benefits or other luxuries will in no way assist a longer life span. Smith instead suggests that we should invest time and money into providing an education for all, even when they are far past the college years. Attempting to keep the elderly brains fresh and thirsting, as well as their bodies, results in an extended life span.
Although this theory appears to be correct at the current time, this does not mean that other theories haven’t been proven on lifespan, such as gender. In 1998, Harvard researchers developed a theory stating that women have a longer life span than men. “Women's life span depends on the balance of two forces, according to Thomas Perls, a geriatrician at Harvard Medical School. One is the evolutionary drive to pass on her genes; the other is the need to stay healthy enough to rear as many children as possible. "Menopause draws the line between the two," Perls says. It protects older women from the risks of bearing children late in life, and lets them live long enough to take care of their children and grandchildren” (2). Perls argues that in most countries, women outlive men by almost ten years.
Although these theories have both proven correct, I think we all know the true key to a healthy life is to eat well, get plenty of exercise, and enjoy it to the best of our abilities.
