Ronald Regan, before he was President, was the republican Governor of California. He was a very popular man and won the election there by a million votes. During his terms as governor, he encountered some difficult situations, such as the issue of capital punishment (which he was for). Both Regan and Romney were liberal politican, and had to confront major issues in their terms.
